Services

The purpose of the Multimedia Language Laboratory is to provide services that:

  • help faculty use technology effectively in their teaching and research;
  • help students use technology effectively in their study of languages, literatures, and cultures;
  • bring a global perspective to the University of Richmond community.

Technology Integration
The MMLL helps both faculty and students plan and implement the effective use of technology in teaching and learning. 

Placement Testing
The MMLL offers placement testing for students with previous study or experience in French, German, Russian, and Spanish.

E-Portfolios
Language learners around the world create portfolios to document their achievements, reflect upon their intercultural experiences, and set goals for the future.  The MMLL assists in the creation of electronic portfolios.

World TV
Television programming from around the world provide new perspectives on the world and encourage the University community to use languages other than English for education and entertainment.  Selected programs from SCOLA are routinely recorded and available for viewing in the MMLL; other programs can be recorded on requestSCOLA Insta-Class lessons provide short weekly practice in listening comprehension.

Room Scheduling
Faculty members may reserve the computer workstations, i.e., the main room of the MMLL, for classes and co-curricular activities.  Both faculty and students may reserve the Screening Room, but faculty requests take priority.

Equipment
The MMLL has a limited supply of portable equipment that can be borrowed for course-related projets.
