Software and Materials
The Global Studio has a small collection of reference materials for the convenience of students and faculty working there. This collection includes dictionaries, grammar references, supplemental texts, and manuals for commonly-used software. Videotapes of the current week's news in French and Spanish as well as course-related media placed on reserve by faculty are available at the studio assistants' desk.
The audio-visual collection of the Studio includes:
- Course-related audio and video files that cannot be put on line because of copyright restrictions;
- Audio and video materials for languages not taught by LAIS or MLC, including Farsi, modern Hebrew, Swahili, and Turkish.
- Materials for self-directed study in a variety of languages, including French, Spanish, Russian, and Portuguese.
Auralog's Tell Me More software is available for self-directed study in Arabic, Chinese, and Japanese. This software features voice recognition and a number of interactive tasks to enhance learning. Rosetta Stone is available for Farsi, Hebrew, Portuguese, Russian, and Turkish. Software for the improvement of French pronunciation is also available.
